Project Proposal
Project Proposal
For the project proposal, I will be writing two poems relating to identity and culture writing. I want to explore my feelings on how each theme represents me as an Asian living in Canada. The type of poem I will be writing is a traditional Vietnamese verse form call “Luc Bat.” I will be recording myself narrating the poem while music plays in the background. Luc Bat is a form meaning six-eights. each line alternates between six and eight syllables. The rhymes for the sixth syllable on both lines then have no set length or a requirement to finish an even line.
Many local poets wrote poems that talked about homeland, war, love, and messages to their families. A few famous poets such as Nguyen Du, Ho Xuan Huong started in the Nguyen dynasty. I want to show how I could use the poem from a local poet talking about my project, talking about identity and culture. The working title of the poem is called “Saigon Boy” and the other “Winter Nation.” I want to write it for people who identify themselves as Vietnamese Canadian and who are not sure about the two cultures from both nationalities. It helps me to understand what I represent to both races about culture and learning of who i am as a Vietnamese Canadian.
